# Make the cart work for your online store: raising the order total

An Odesa [online spice store](http://lavka-speciy.od.ua) has put a table of discounts that depend on the order total on its cart page. A very good idea, I think. This way you can encourage the customer to raise the order total to get free delivery or a discount.

The scheme can be improved with a technique common in Western online stores: "*add something worth $N to your cart and get a discount*" or "*add something worth $N to enter the promotion/prize draw*".

True, this store hasn't worked out its discount scheme well enough: only 5%, and no further tiers.
