Steve Pavlina’s personal development book at the MIF publishing house

Hahaha! MIF (Mann, Ivanov and Ferber), the well-known publisher of business books, has released a translation of Steve Pavlina’s book on personal development. When I suggested this book to them in 2008, they answered that “it’s already being prepared at another publishing house”. They also sent me a copy of a letter from Artyom Stepanov that said, “In my view, this is exactly that pop psychology.”

I think the book’s “pop-psychologiness” was the real reason they turned it down. Because before this year the book hadn’t come out in Russian at any publisher I know of. Yet in 2010 the publisher “Ves” released it.

So I can say, with some resentment, that “Suggest a book to us” from Mann, Ivanov and Ferber is an empty marketing trick :(

P.S. Actually, I highly recommend Steve Pavlina to anyone who cares about personal development. There are, of course, some “quirks” in there, so to speak, but they don’t affect the value of the book.

P.P.S. If even such a respected publisher of business books doesn’t keep its promises… Maybe they don’t read what they publish?

P.P.P.S. English has a wonderful idiom: “Practice what you preach”.
