I think it’s worth writing up my finds on all sorts of technical questions on the blog: someone might google the same thing.
Dropbox took several hours to install on Rosinka, the Russian edition of Linux Mint. It’s all so complicated when you’re a n00b :)
Now I’m not even sure what exactly helped. Anyway, this is the order:
Don’t install Dropbox through the package manager or the software manager.
In the file /etc/apt/sources.list.d/dropbox.list, literally replace “isadora” with “lucid”.
You can do that like this: open a terminal and type:
sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list.d/dropbox.list
Then you can try typing this in the terminal (if you’re not sure whether you have 32 or 64 bits, choose 32).
For 32-bit:
cd ~
rm -rf .dropbox-dist/
rm dropbox*
wget http://dl-web.dropbox.com/u/17/dropbox-lnx.x86-0.8.67.tar.gz
tar -xzf dropbox*
For 64-bit:
cd ~
rm -rf .dropbox-dist/
rm dropbox*
wget http://dl-web.dropbox.com/u/17/dropbox-lnx.x86_64-0.8.67.tar.gz
tar -xzf dropbox*
